Corsair Memory, a leading manufacturer of high-performance memory modules, said on Tuesday that its engineers have managed to set the new world’s record for the highest achieved DDR3 memory frequency. Specialists from Corsair utilized the company’s new Dominator memory module as well as an Intel X48-based platform.
“Corsair is obsessed with pushing memory technology to its limits and beyond. This world record demonstrates the overclocking and high speed memory expertise within Corsair Labs and definitely pushes the memory enthusiast community to achieve even faster, more outrageous speeds,” said Martin Mueller, senior director of engineering at Corsair.
Using Asustek Computer P5E3 Premium mainboard based on Intel’s latest X48 core-logic as well as Corsair Dominator DDR3 1GB memory module, engineers at the memory manufacturer managed to overclock DDR3 memory to 2462MHz with CL9 9-9-24 latency settings, which provided 19.696GB/s of bandwidth in single-channel mode.
Since enthusiasts seeking for highest possible performance utilize memory in dual-channel mode, the record set by Corsair does not have a lot of practical use simply because a pair of 2GHz memory modules would provide higher peak bandwidth (32GB/s) and hence higher performance.
Corsair Dominator memory modules utilize the company’s proprietary dual-path heat eXchange (DHX) radiators that cool down memory chips from the back and from the front, like any conventional heat-spreaders, as well as take the heat away from print-circuit board (PCB), which incorporates some additional elements to remove heat from BGA memory chips. In addition to that, Corsair offers to install Dominator airflow fan that provides extra cooling through airflows.
