Abit AG8 Review

Date: 2005-2-15

[Abstract]
The first thing I have to say about the ABIT AG8 is that it is the best overclocking 915P motherboard we have tested on spective so far. It was able to do an amazing 261MHz clock (1044MHz bus ...

Abit AG8 Review

ABIT AG8 (i915P) - Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR

Chaintech V915P (i915P) - Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR

Intel i915P with DDR2 - Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR2

VIA K8T800 Pro - Athlon 64 3200+ (754 pin), 1GB DDR

NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra400 - Athlon XP3200+, 1GB DDR

Not surprisingly CPU performance is identical across all three Intel 915P systems since they are all using the same Pentium 4 560E CPU.

As we will see again shortly in the Everest memory test, memory performance on the ABIT AG8 is slightly slower than the DDR2 version of the chipset. Also, as we go further into this review, we will see that this difference in memory performance has marginal effects.

The ABIT AG8 has some pretty high latency performing transactions to and from the system memory. Latency in itself isn鈥檛 bad as long as it is handled efficiently as we will see in the next test.

Even though the AG8 has some high latencies reported in the last test, we see here that the delays have little effect on overall memory performance. It ends up performing better than the K8T800 Pro system, even though the K8T800 Pro has lower latency.
