The top of the printer reveals the controls and the primary print tray. The LCD display is very basic and easy to navigate, just right for a printer at this level. In addition to showing the printer's state the LCD can do things as fun as customize color, determine duplex layout, configure your network settings, and adjust for altitude.
On the right side of the printer is the Multi-Purpose Tray. This can be used for all sorts of non-standard print jobs, including transparencies, cards, and envelopes. You can also manually feed this tray for special jobs like letterheads, colored paper, or whatever else you do not want in your standard tray. This area can hold about ten envelopes, or thirty transparencies, or ten labels, or ten sheets of card stock. The paper source is set in the Printing Preferences.
The Printing Preferences, which is installed with the CLP-510n drivers CD is the printer's command center. For your average home printer there is not much you would use this for, expect for telling the printer to print in grayscale, or something basic like that. In a professional application there are lots of reasons to use this including orientation, printing multiple pages on one sheet, printing posters, duplexing, scaling, setting the paper source, setting resolution, and so forth. This area is one of the CLP-510n strengths- almost any option can be turned on or off with some simple toggling within the Printer Preferences, no getting up or fumbling with the printer required.
