Test Setup
Like always, the PowerColor Radeon X1650 XT 256MB was tested on our older graphics test rig, which used a MSI K8N Diamond Plus together with an Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6GHz) processor. We installed 1GB of Kingston low latency DDR400 HyperX RAM, running in dual channel mode and there was also a 80GB Seagate 7200.7 SATA hard drive. Finally, we used Microsoft's Windows XP Professional, which had been updated with Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.0c.
For the drivers, we had to use the ones provided by PowerColor, which turned out to be 8.301. This version was slightly newer than the one found on the MSI, which was 8.292. Nevertheless, we hope that this issue of relying on bundled drivers be solved when the next Catalyst drivers are released (Catalyst 6.12 wasn't available at the time of review). For the other cards in the comparison, we had the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT on ForceWare 91.29, while the overclocked GeCube Radeon X1650 PRO, the Radeon X1800 GTO and X1900 GT on Catalyst 6.8. The usual benchmarks were tested as follows:
Futuremark 3DMark05 Pro (version 120) Futuremark 3DMark06 Pro (version 102) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory (version 1.3) F.E.A.R Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (version 1.1) Quake 4
