Results - SPEC CPU2000 v1.3
Starting off with SPEC CPU2000 to find out the raw floating point and integer performance of these new chips, we saw the Core i7-975 XE and 950 predictably ahead of the i7-965 XE and 940 in terms of their peak scores by around 4%. This was in line with the slight clock speed advantage that the newcomers have.
When it came to the multi-threaded, 4-user scenario, there was practically no difference between the two Extreme Edition Core i7 for floating point performance, though the i7-975 was about 7% faster in the integer segment. This scenario was mostly replicated in the case of the i7-950 versus the i7-940.
