Test Setup
For today's testing we used our Intel testbed. The operating system of choice was Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with SP2 installed. AMD's Catalyst 9.6 drivers were used and the latest patches were applied for Futuremark's 3DMark series in addition to using the latest executables for the rest of the benchmarking suite. For the stock runs the memory was run at DDR3-1866 7-8-7-20-1T with the memory controller operating at 3732MHz. Please disregard the second HD 4870x2 in the image; the cards are mounted together but the 2nd card is disabled in Windows.
At stock, cpu vcore was set to 1.2v, vtt set to 1.25v, and vDIMM set to 1.64v with everything else left on auto. For the overclocking runs, vcore was set to 1.50-1.525v, vtt was set to 1.30v-1.325v, and vDIMM set to 1.64v. For benchmarking Intel Speedstep was disabled while benching it was enabled. For cooling during the extreme overclocking session my mini cascade was utilized which holds 250w @ -70 Celsius and achieves CPU temperatures seen using dry ice.
