The Home Theatre Personal Computer (HTPC) movement has been gaining momentum quite a bit lately. Companies are starting to see a market for this genre of computing and are giving enthusiasts more choices than ever before. Today we are evaluating the Silverstone SST-LC10 HTPC case. Before we dive into the details of the case, we are going to give a brief overview of what an HTPC is.

Brief Introduction: What is HTPC?

As users become more familiar with computers and their components, we are seeing users building their own computers rather than buying from major manufacturers such as Dell or HP. This gives users many choices over what they put in and out of their systems, including the case. Some bright enthusiasts realized that a home built computer could also take over the role of many common home theater components and integrate them into a single box. Think of an HTPC as a media center for your digital entertainment needs. With it, you can pipe MP3s in your living room sound system rather than some dinky PC speakers, record your favorite TV shows, show a slideshow of your favorite digital photographs using your TV, access the internet through your TV, or record your favorite radio station onto your hard drive. Don't forget that an HTPC is a fully functioning desktop computer. It's basically a TiVO with more power and without the monthly fee. The possibilities are truly endless. If you need more information, just type "HTPC" into your favorite web search engine and voila ?surrender yourself to the world of HTPC.

Greek philosopher Plato thought that every object and concept in the physical world was an attempt at replicating the true "form" of that object or concept. He believed that there was a perfect chair, a perfect man, a perfect dog and that every chair, man, and dog strived to reach that perfect form. So if we were to sit down and think about what every HTPC case should strive to be, what would we come up with? The three important aspects of this case are aesthetics, noise, and size. Aesthetics are very important because you don't want to have something gaudy in your living room. Noise is also important because you don't want to hear the constant whirring of computer fans over your favorite movie or TV show. And size also takes significance because you want to be able to fit all your components inside the case, but you don't want it to be too big or too small for your specific needs. So this case would be sleek and stylish, but not so awe-inspiring that it commands the eye to look at it, completely silent, and just the right size for your needs.

How close does the Silverstone SST-LC10 come to perfection? Read on to find out
