Complementary Partners Mark Innovative Processor 2nd Anniversary Celebration

[25 April 2005] Kingston Technology, the world's leading independent memory manufacturer, today congratulated AMD on the second anniversary of its industry-leading AMD Opteron processor.

Committed to the advancement of computing technology, Kingston Technology has been working closely with AMD over the past few years during AMD's development of multi-core processing technology, touted by analysts to be the next revolution in computer processing power.

?The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors and Kingston Technology memory offer a powerful dynamic duo in computing performance,?said Thomas Marschner, Vice President Sales and Marketing Europe, Kingston Technology. ?Kingston Technology's quality memory complements AMD64 processors, in both single-core and dual-core configurations,?continued Marschner.

?AMD's continued work with Kingston Technology is another testament to our shared dedication to helping memory-constrained customers in need,?said Pat Patla, Director, Server/Workstation Marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. ?We are celebrating two years of the growing AMD64 platform, which now includes Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture.?br />
Complementary Partners

Kingston Technology and AMD have a long history of complementary partnering; working together since 1994 in the areas of design engineering, R&D testing, global sales and marketing. AMD has recognised Kingston Technology numerous times as a valued partner and resource, most recently as ?Outstanding Partner,?in 2004 and gold sponsor of AMD's Tech Tour and AMD64 Experiential Tour 2004 in 20 top North American markets.

AMD64 Ecosystem is Growing

As more companies embrace 64-bit processing technology with the launch of applications able to take advantage of the powerful processing capabilities, the technology window is advancing to ever-faster computing capabilities.

AMD identified early in the AMD64 development process that multiple cores would be the next evolution to gain the highest performance, so AMD64 was designed from the ground up to be optimised for multiple cores. AMD is bringing dual core into servers and workstations first with the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor launch today and then will follow with desktop and mobile dual-core processors later in 2005 since that makes the most sense for the market's needs.

The AMD Opteron processor, enabling simultaneous 32-bit and 64-bit computing, represents the landmark introduction of AMD64 with Direct Connect Architecture. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to run existing 32-bit applications with outstanding performance and offers customers a simplified migration path to 64-bit computing. This evolutionary processor provides a dramatic leap forward in compatibility, performance, investment protection, and reduced total cost of ownership. The AMD Opteron processor is offered in three series: the 100 series (1-way), the 200 series (Up to 2-way), and the 800 series (Up to 8-way).
