VIA cooking up some cool CPUsThe Inquirer is reporting that VIA is planning to launch a Socket 479 processor, pin-compatible with the Pentium M. Whether or not it will be a drop-in replacement for the Pentium M (due to motherboard compatibility reasons) remains to be seen, but the Inq suspects that it will be a very cool-running CPU, for which VIA is well-known.
With the current cost of Pentium Ms being quite high, this could provide a nice boost for the S479 platform. Here's to hoping that the FPU is more powerful than what we've seen from previous VIA designs, though.
