Matrox Graphics, a minor graphics company that serves less than one percent of the market, has announced that its product called TripleHead2Go, which lets users to plug up to three displays to a single graphics card, has been released to the market. Potentially, the device may appeal to gamers and professionals.
The TripleHead2Go is a palm-sized adapter, which lets users to connect up to three monitors to a graphics card. Typically, graphics cards have only two connectors for monitors, whereas some users demand more and that is where the TripleHead2Go comes into play, believes Matrox Graphics.
Back in the days, the company also had a graphics processor, which supported output to three monitors, but that chip has insufficient performance for today's needs and the firm failed to introduce a more advanced graphics processing units (GPUs). But when its Parhelia chip was introduced with support of TripleHead and SurroundGaming technologies, the firm initiated work with game developers in regards of supporting the latter capability. Even though Parhelia is not competitive today, the efforts did not fall into the oblivion, according to Matrox Graphics, there are more than 135 games that may support output to three monitors, including World of Warcraft by Blizzard Entertainment, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast by Valve Software.
Matrox TripleHead2Go provides one D-Sub input and three D-Sub outputs, the system recognizes the displays as 3840x1024 resolution display. Matrox supplies its Surround Gaming utility with its TripleHead2Go product. The application automatically updates game configuration files to have proper settings enabled for TripleHead resolutions.
Matrox TripleHead2Go is now shipping worldwide through authorized system integrators and resellers for $299, or, in North America and Europe, directly from Matrox via its online store.
