Flextronics, a Singapore-based Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider has reportedly acquired second-tier maker of server and workstations motherboards Iwill. No official statements have been released on the matter and no details of the acquisition is presently available.
The EMS company delivers complete design, engineering and manufacturing services to aerospace, automotive, computing, consumer digital, industrial, infrastructure, medical and mobile OEMs. Meanwhile, Iwill is solely concentrated on development and manufacturing of server and workstation mainboards as well as barebones.
While Iwill is pretty well known maker in the industry, the volumes it produces may be far below its larger rivals, such as Asustek Computer or Foxconn. Acquisition of Iwill may help the latter to gain access to manufacturing capacities of Flextronics, one of the world's largest maker of computer components and more. Flextronics will get Iwill brand-name as well as its specialists.
?From our perspective is nothing different about this acquisition with respect to our current business, please continue supporting us as you did to Iwill Corp,?Gary Lin, a spokesman of Iwill is reported to have said.
Mason Su, from Iwill, will continue to lead the team, HB Lin will look after research and development (R&D), Rover Chen will lead the product marketing department while SS Chang will be the head of the sales team, according to a news-story by The Inquirer web-site.
Consolidations in the mainboard and computer components markets have been going for several years now. During the last 12 to 18 months Walton acquired a stake in Chaintech, Abit was bought by USI, Leadtek Research teamed up with Foxconn and several other deals were conducted.
