Foxconn Electronics, a leading contract maker of computer components, has unveiled its first lineup of graphics cards that will be sold under its own brand-name. This is the second time when Foxconn tries to penetrate the channel market with own-brand components after the firm entered channel mainboard business over a year ago.
The first lineup of graphics cards from Foxconn includes boards powered by the GeForce 7100, 7300, 7600, 7900 and 7950 graphics processing units (GPUs). Earlier it was rumoured that Foxconn intended to use chips from both ATI Technologies and Nvidia Corp., however, at this time the company only unveils products based on the GeForce GPUs.
“Foxconn has leveraged its expertise in the PC components business and worked closely with Nvidia to develop this complete range of graphics solutions,?commented Vincent Yuan, General Manger of Foxconn Channel Services Division. “Our channel customers, whether they are distributors, resellers or system integrators, have the ability to meet the needs of all market segments and applications effectively with one comprehensive series of graphics cards based on the acclaimed Nvidia GeForce 7 Series GPUs, and all from one source.
Earlier this year a web-site cited mainboard makers as saying that according to their analysis, Foxconn has enough power to reshuffle the market of graphics cards and join the list of leading brand-names in the market, such as Asustek Computer, Microstar International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology. Foxconn already supplies several computer makers and several third-party add-in-card suppliers with its graphics cards, which means that the firm has enough experience in the appropriate manufacturing.
