XFX, graphics card division of Pine Technologies known for computer hardware designed for gamers, announced on Friday intentions to produce pre-overclocked GeForce 8800-series graphics cards, something, which would be new to market, as so far now the GeForce 8800 hardware is only available at default clock-speeds.
The new XXX lineup of XFX GeForce 8800 graphics boards will include two models powered by the GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GTX graphics processing units and will have special BIOS versions. The XXX 8800 GTX will operate at 630MHz/2.0GHz chip/memory (up from 575MHz/1.80GHz), while the XXX 8800 GTX is promised to function at 550MHz/1.80GHz clock-speeds for GPU/memory (up from 500MHz/1.60GHz default frequencies).
Currently Nvidia's add-in-card partners sell GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB (575MHz clock-speed, 128 stream processors at 1350MHz , 32 texture mapping units, 24 raster operation units, 384-bit memory bus) and GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB (500MHz clock-speed, 128 stream processors at 1200MHz , 24 texture mapping units, 20 raster operation units, 320-bit memory bus) graphics cards for $599 and $449 recommended price-points.
To differentiate themselves from others, the brand-name resellers need to either add items into the package with graphics cards, or ensure that the boards work at higher speeds compared to the rivals. Unfortunately for graphics cards suppliers, according to industry rumours, Nvidia did not let its partners to pre-overclock the GeForce 8800-series graphics cards that are produced under supervision of the graphics chip designer.
Prices of the pre-overclocked GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS graphics boards from XFX is unclear.
