Apple, a leading maker of portable digital media players, on Tuesday announced its new iPod and iPhone models that feature higher memory capacity. The new devices will be sold at higher prices and are projected to satisfy users who require more memory than the others. The new products do not boast with any new features.
“For some users, there’s never enough memory. Now people can enjoy even more of their music, photos and videos on the most revolutionary mobile phone and best Wi-Fi mobile device in the world,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of worldwide iPod and iPhone product marketing.
The new products in the Apple lineup are Apple iPhone 16GB, which will be sold for $499; as well as Apple iPod touch 32GB, which will be priced at $499. The new devices add new price points into their respective lineups, as earlier the most expensive iPhone and iPod were available at $399 price-points.
Apple iPhone combines digital media player, phone, Web browser and personal digital assistant’s features. The device is equipped with 3.5” touch-screen instead of keypad, includes support for quad-band GSM, EDGE, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR wireless technologies. The iPhone also features a 2 megapixel (2MP) camera along with a photo management application. Apple iPhone costs $399 in the U.S. and various sums in the rest of the world.
The new iPod touch, which is usually considered as a cut-down iPhone, features 3.5” touch-screen with 480x320 resolution, 8GB or 16GB of flash memory, 802.11b/g wireless network controller, Apple Safari web browser as well as YouTube application to access videos from the Internet. The new Apple iPod touch can playback music as well as videos in various formats.
