Acer, the world’s third largest supplier of personal computers, this week entered the market of very high-end personal computers aimed at video game enthusiasts. Entering this market means that in spite of lowering sales of high-end graphics sub-systems – the corner-stone of gaming PCs – the market still has potential.

The first system from Acer aimed at gamers without almost any budget constraints is Acer Aspire Predator, a system that fits into premium class machines, but comes with technologies that are not exactly top-notch. The Predator personal computers are based on Intel Core 2 Extreme/Quad “overclockable” microprocessor, Nvidia nForce 780i core-logic with multi-GPU technology support, DDR2 memory, rapid hard disk drives, Blu-ray disc optical drive and so on.

The new gaming PC from Acer comes in a fancy orange case with front panel that can be opened upwards, a questionable solution for a PC of a gamer, who changers optical discs to play various games quite often.

Even though the success of Acer on the market of very high-end personal computers is uncertain at the moment, given that the world still has to hear about the strategy and tactics to compete against such haute couture brands like Alienware or Voodoo PC, the fact that the No. 3 maker of PCs decides to fight means quite a lot.

Pricing of Acer Aspire Predator personal computer remains unclear.
