OCZ Technology Group, a leading supplier of dynamic random access memory and flash-based products, has unveiled its family of affordable solid-state drives (SSDs), which price begins at just $169. The new products from OCZ will allow end-users in budget to take advantage of SSD’s energy efficiency.

“SSDs offer higher performance, reliability, and energy efficiency than conventional HDDs but the cost variance has limited adoption of vastly superior SSD technology, until now. It is our mission to deliver the highest performance products to consumers at reasonable prices, and with the release of the Core Series SSDs we have done exactly that,” said Ryan Petersen, chief executive officer of OCZ Technology.

Core-series SSDs are available in capacities of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB and deliver 120MB/s – 143MB/s read speeds as well as 80MB/s – 93MB/s write speeds as well as 0.35ms seek time, which is inline with OCZ's premium-class SSDs unveiled earlier this year. Still, the main advantage of OCZ Core-series SSDs is their price, which is a result of usage of MLC flash: the company plans to sell its 32GB, 64GB and 128GB flash-based storage products for $169, $259 and $479, respectively, which are very affordable prices.

The drives feature a durable yet lightweight alloy housing and the manufacturer declares 1.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF) figures for its SSDs. All Core Series SSD drives come backed a two year warranty and OCZ’s service and support.
