Memory Tests

We begin with a look at three tests to measure the performance of the motherboards memory subsystem, starting with our own custom Pifast test.

Pifast

EQS A58XK9-ALF Radeon Xpress 200P motherboard

A good showing for the RX480 board in our first test, as it manages to slightly outperform its nForce 3 rival.

Sciencemark 2.0 - Bandwidth

Here, we use Sciencemark 2.0 to measures the peak bandwidth between the CPU and memory controller, in other words the bandwidth available to the CPU during memory intensive tasks.

The on-die memory controller of the Athlon64 series of CPUs means that there is little to tell between motherboards when it comes to bandwidth, and this example is no exception - The EQS board shows a small lead here, but both motherboards here are basically in the same ball park.

Sciencemark 2.0 - Access Latency

The same rule applies when it comes to memory latency - The EQS board again finds itself with an advantage, but not a huge one by any stretch of the imagination.
