Software:
Please understand the information on this page is directly taken from our Rio Forge Sport’s evaluation from yesterday. Note that Rio bundles the same Rio Music Manager application with both MP3 players.
Similar to other MP3 players in the market, the Rio Carbon arrives with its music managing software ?Rio Music Manager. If a MP3 player is to be considered well rounded, it must come with at least decent music management software that might add more features to the existing hardware.
The album tab at the top enlists the number of albums in the software along with the number of songs per album. It’s a nice feature for those of you that like to stay more organized by dividing songs into their designated albums.
The artist tab is similar in regards to the album tab; you can organize the songs depending upon the artist.
The genres tab does the same thing.
The songs tab lists all possible tracks that are currently being managed by the software. You can edit each song by right clicking it and adding or removing the information as need be.
Although the Rio Carbon does not let you make playlists on the device itself, the software is equipped with this feature. Though we would’ve preferred this particular feature to be on the hardware as well for making quick playlists on the go, that’s unfortunately not possible. Nonetheless, you can make the playlists with the Rio Music Manager, which is better than nothing.
You also have the capability to search through your computer for a particular song; it’s nice to see the software well integrated with the rest of the system.
Another fine option of the Rio Music Manager is the Rio DJ Mix. If you are in the mood of creating a remix with your personal collection, this option will let guide you through a wizard and generate a custom remix as a result.
Rio Music Manager is above average software that is well-integrated, hassle-free to use and is implemented with options that are useful. The interface isn’t too polished, but it’s not clumsy either. All in all, it’s a well-rounded application that fully supports the Rio Carbon.
