Gigabyte GeForce 6200TC comes in two models; GV-NX62TC256DE and GV-NX62TC128D. Our review unit is the GV-NX62TC256DE which has 64MB memory onboard while GV-NX62TC128D has only 16MB memory onboard. Besides that, the GV-NX62TC256DE is in 128-bit and GV-NX62TC128D is only 64-bit. The physical size of the GV-NX62TC256DE is the same size with other midrange graphic cards such as GeForce 6600 and GeForce 6200. The PCB of the card is blue in color, which is Gigabyte's favourite colour.
The core of the GV-NX62TC256DE is using NV44 which is same with the later batches of GeForce 6200 because the earlier version of GeForce 6200 was using the NV43 Core. The core is only about 10mm x 11mm dimension only which is smaller than the normal NVIDIA core and it is using 0.11 micron process. The original core speed for the GV-NX62TC256DE is 350MHz. Later on the review, we?ll show you whether the GV-NX62TC256DE can be overclocked to GeForce 6200 core speed or not.
There is a total of 4 pieces of Hynix 4ns memory chips used on the GV-NX62TC256DE with the total capacity of 64MB. You might wonder that why the GV-NX62TC256DE only has 64MB memory although it supports maximum 256MB memory which was written on its specification. The 64MB memory is called local buffer memory and the extra memory is borrowed from the PC memory and this is called Turbo Cache technology where graphic card will use the PC memory as their own memory to balance the overall system bandwidth utilization. The 4ns DDR memory chip runs at 500MHz originally so the memory speed of the GV-NX62TC256DE also is 500MHz (250DDR) effectively.
The reference NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TC is using passive cooler and Gigabyte also applied a passive cooler for their GV-NX62TC256DE and GV-NX62TC128D. The passive heat sink was made by some cheaper material but not aluminum. Anyways, passive coolers are great for HTPCs where it actually genaretes no noise at all!
Although the GV-NX62TC256DE is one of Gigabyte's low end graphic cards, they did add a DVI output on it to fulfill most customers?requirement. I also forgot to mention that, the GeForce 6200TC is available only in PCI-E because the AGP architecture does not support Turbo Cache technology.
