Test Setup
Since we have reviewed AOpen's last attempt at a Pentium M motherboard (the i855GMEm-LFS), we will use that very board as a comparison for the i915GMm-HFS. The older board was based on the Intel 855GM chipset and only supported a 400MHz FSB. With this new incarnation, we should be able to see a boost to performance with a 533MHz FSB as well as the Dothan core's better power saving features. We will also test the i915GMm-HFS using both the older 'Banias' Pentium M 1.6GHz as well as the 'Dothan' Pentium M 750 to gauge performance gains. Test bed components are listed below, including the two different configurations used for the i915GMm-HFS:
i915GMm-HFS (using Dothan CPU) Intel Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2) 2 x 512MB Kingston DDR2-533 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB SATA hard disk drive (one single NTFS partition) MSI PCX5750 128MB - with NVIDIA ForceWare 61.34 driver (BETA) Intel INF 7.0.0.1025 Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (with DirectX 9.0c)
i915GMm-HFS (using Banias CPU) Intel Pentium M processor 1.6GHz (1MB L2) 2 x 512MB Kingston DDR-333 (Only single channel mode supported for DDR RAM) Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB SATA hard disk drive (one single NTFS partition) MSI PCX5750 128MB - with NVIDIA ForceWare 61.34 driver (BETA) Intel INF 7.0.0.1025 Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (with DirectX 9.0c)
i855GMEm-LFS Intel Pentium M processor 1.6GHz (1MB L2) 2 x 512MB Kingston DDR-433 @ DDR-333 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB SATA hard disk drive (one single NTFS partition) MSI PCX5750 128MB - with NVIDIA ForceWare 61.34 driver (BETA) Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 (with DirectX 9.0c)
