CM ATCS 840 - Components and External Impressions

The first thing you’ll notice when you take the case out of the box is just how massive it is being 9.57wide and 22.83tall. This is partly due to the 230mm fans that come pre-installed and also to support six 5.25drive bays and six 3.5HDD bays. The case is heavy as well which typically bodes well for the level of craftsmanship used and I can indeed confirm that the case is very sturdy and well built with clean welds and a thoughtful layout.

The next thing I noticed was the beauty of the simple design. No windows, no glowing lights (save for the HDD and power lights), no bezel door and no fancy design patterns. This appeals to me for my PC is not a showpiece and I’d rather have those design dollars put towards more functional features. The all aluminum chassis comes in two colors; I opted for the black case but it is also available in silver. The black does tend to collect finger marks on it. This was no big deal to me but some may find it annoying.

The I/O panel on the front pops up with a firm push and can be closed when not in use although I see no reason to keep it closed.

There is a vent where the PSU mounts allowing the air warmed by the PSU to exit the case without adding heat to the interior. This vent, as well as the one next to it, each have dust filters which are easily removed and washed without the removal of any other parts.
