Power Consumption
For testing power consumption, we took our test system and pluggedit into a Seasonic Power Angel. For idle numbers, we allowed the systemto idle on the desktop for 15 minutes and took the reading. For loadnumbers we measured the peak wattage used by the system while runningthe OpenGL benchmark FurMark 1.7.0 at 1920x1200 resolution.
Power Consumption Results: The EVGA GeForce GT 240 Superclocked graphics card uses less power at idle than the EVGA GeForce GT 220 SSC video card! Why is this? It is because the EVGA GeForce GT 240 Superclocked graphics card uses 512MB of energy efficient GDDR5 memory. The EVGA GeForce GT 220 SSC video card on the other hand has twice as much memory at 1024MB and to make things worse it is based on less energy efficient GDDR3 memory. At load the 96 stream processors on the GeForce GT 240 SuperClocked edition card make up for the power savings of the memory and uses just slightly more power than the Geforce GT 220 SSC's 48 stream processors.
