-AMD provides customers flexibility and enhanced design options for a broad range of embedded devices-

AUSTIN, TX - December 13, 2004 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the availability of the AMD Geode(tm) GX SOM-144 Reference Design Kit (RDK), a low-power, high-performance System-On-Module designed to speed development and functionality of the next generation of industrial computing products, such as embedded controllers, point-of-sale terminals, information appliances and kiosks. The RDK is a small form factor reference design tool that includes both hardware and software specifications.

Based on the AMD Geode GX 533@1.1W processor*, the RDK provides customers with an affordable, targeted solution that can be easily configured to address industrial application performance needs throughout the design and development cycle. To meet demands for more compact, powerful devices, manufacturers require a design solution that allows for flexibility while supporting widely adopted industry standards. The AMD Geode GX SOM-144 RDK is based on the x86 architecture and is optimized to provide optimal power/performance for small form factors.
"Design engineers in the embedded market are developing increasingly complex designs within small form factors," said Erik Salo, AMD's director of marketing for the Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. "The AMD Geode SOM-144 RDK represents AMD's ongoing commitment to provide customer development solutions for low-power, high-performance products. Designers using the AMD Geode GX SOM-144 RDK will have an integrated suite of tools at their fingertips to help reduce development cost and time-to-market for embedded applications, as well as AMD's commitment to provide long-term support."
