Gainward steps up to the plate, to provide first 512 MB nVidia card.Hot on the heels of yesterday's story about speculation of a 512 MB ATI card (which, by the way, has been confirmed), Gainward has announced that they are in the process of designing a GeForce 6800 Ultra with a total of 512 MB of memory, with 256 MB on either side of the PCB.
The card will have 256MB on each side of the PCB, doubling total memory to a magnificent 512MB. It's a cool number and it might give some performance in 1600x1200 at 4X FSAA or more and Aniso 8X or more. It should be available after this German show, we expect it by the end of March or early April.
Very hawt. While Fuad Abazovic of The Inquirer seems a bit misinformed about video RAM and SLI (2*512 MB in SLI is still 512 MB of unique memory), I'll forgive him because he's funny.
Both ATI and nVidia are now muscling it out in the memory department while their engineers are hard at work in their lairs designing both companys' respective next-gen GPUs. Nevertheless, I know of a few people who will be rushing out to buy these cards regardless of the cost.
