Management and staff to stay intactThe other big?Vancouver developer, Radical Entertainment has been bought up by Vivendi.?It looks like this deal has been a long time coming;?Vivendi signed a six game publishing contract with Radical that gave them an option of a buy out and option recently came up.?
"The name is staying the same, management is staying the same, now just have guaranteed publishing," she said. Radical said the move is only part of increasing consolidation in the industry and gives Radical the security of a solid publisher as a partner.
"We've been a privately held company and we have always had solid revenue so it's not really about that, it is about having that publishing partner," she said. "We were an independent developer and now we are a developer for Vivendi."
It does not look like there will be too many changes at Radical. I had friends who interned there and they spoke very highly of them and it looks like they've been doing well lately. There focus has been on console games instead of the PC side of things. I had a copy of NHL Powerplay (you know, the 8th most popular sport in North America) back in 96 I believe and gameplay was pretty swell. Only problem was that it had a nasty bug that liked to corrupt my season. Unfortunately it was kind of crushed by the EA NHL series. C`est la vie.Article Link: Vivendi buys Radical Entertainment
