TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT EUROPE UNVEILS FIRST WAVE OF TITLES ON UMD FOR THE SONY PLAYSTATION PORTABLE
DVD Releases To Coincide With Hardware Launch
8th June 2005 ?Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment Europe announces its first wave of film titles on the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) launching in September. The studio supports a technologically advanced format such as UMD as it provides consumers with new entertainment options that are portable and convenient, while providing the studio's intellectual property with a virtually impenetrable copyright protection.
"The technologically advanced PSP enables our consumers to experience Fox movies with the same high quality picture and audio to which they have grown accustomed, while securing our film assets with a unique hardware-based copy protection," said Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "We are extremely supportive of this new technology and are currently assembling a robust library of titles for release that are perfectly suited for the PSP and its core demo."
The studio's initial wave of titles - to coincide with the hardware launch - target the platform's core demographic of men ages 18-34, with a burgeoning catalog of releases scheduled for subsequent waves in 2005. The first group of Fox films to arrive on UMD includes I, Robot, Alien Vs Predator, Dodgeball, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and classic sci-fi thriller Alien.
PSP (PlayStation Portable) is a new portable entertainment system that allows users to enjoy 3D games, high-quality full-motion video, and high-fidelity stereo audio. With graphics rendering capability comparable to that of PlayStation2, PSP features a 4.3 inch wide screen, high-resolution TFT display. PSP also adopts a newly developed compact but high-capacity (1.8GB) optical disc, Universal Media Disc (UMDTM), as its storage medium. With a wide range of accessories and connectivity options, including Memory Stick Duo, USB 2.0, IR port and Wi-Fi wireless LAN, PSP is the new entertainment platform from PlayStation.
