Gigabyte's "3D1" returns, this time with 2 68GTs on one cardSome of you may remember the original Gigabyte 3D1, the dual 6600GT card we reviewed earlier this year in January.?At the time it was quite an interesting achievement, while others were toying with SLI Gigabyte took an engineering risk and produced a single card, dual GPU solution.?Well Gigabyte is following up on that engineering feat with their GV-3D1-68GT, featuring 2 6800GT GPUs on one single card.
This card will benefit from each GPU's 16 pipes and a total of 512MB of DDR3 memory.?It will also feature quad monitor support, and will be compatible with a "wider range" of motherboards than the 3D1, which was sold exclusively with Gigabyte's GA- K8NXP-SLI board.?We haven't got any details yet on pricing or on the clock speeds, but we suspect it should be pretty competitive.?The original 3D1 was dubbed as giving the 68Ultra a run for its money at a lower price point.
But the 3D1-68GT does come at a strange time.?The 7800GTX (G70)?we previewed performs at around the same level as 6800GT SLI cards, so the 3D1-68GT would have to be priced below the price of the 7800GTX to make sense to consumers.?Even then, the card will not have the SLI upgrade path that the 7800GTX will offer so it remains to be seen how this card will be placed on the market.
For now here's a pic for drool factor:
