Key manufacturing partner for ATI and Nvidia to produce GPU for Microsoft's next-gen console

GamesIndustry.biz writes that the Xbox 360 GPU, designed by ATI, will be manufactured by one of the larger names in the semiconductor fab business, Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC).?TSMC already has a long history in manufacturing GPUs for both Nvidia and ATI, so the news probably won't be too surprising for tech info buffs.

Previous reports have pegged the Xbox 360 GPU at a minimum 500MHz core clock, making it faster than Nvidia's recently-released G70 (GeForce 7800 GTX), at least on paper.?? Higher speeds are theoretically possible, but as expected, other issues like overall CPU and memory bandwidth performance will have to be taken into account before we can be sure of actual maximum speeds.
