Advanced Micro Devices on Monday said that three distributors of wholesale computer components would offer servers and mainboards by Supermicro designed for AMD64 microprocessors. Supermicro, who earlier only produced Intel-based servers and components, will sell its AMD64-powered products under A+ trademark.

?We strive to build solutions based on leading innovative and reliable technology, and by adding AMD64 technology into our portfolio of offerings, we are able to significantly broaden the choices available to our customers,?said Wally Liaw, vice president, International Sales, Supermicro.

The latest AMD Opteron processor-based motherboards and barebones servers from Supermicro are now available from ASI Corp., Ingram Micro and Tech Data, according to AMD.

Earlier this year Supermicro already announced intention to produce mainboards and servers for AMD Opteron processors. But the company only aimed OEMs with such products and?it was not expected that the manufacturer had?plans to sell them via channels.

Supermicro's AMD64 product portfolio includes tower/pedestal servers (4U) as well as 1U and 2U rackmount servers for uni-processor, dual-processor and multi-processors applications.
