Nvidia Corp. plans not only to increase performance fiercely with the launch of its new code-named G71 graphics processors, but also to decrease pricing of single-chip high-end graphics cards. For those who demand ultimate performance, dual-chip graphics cards will be promoted.

Nvidia's yet to be released GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB graphics board has planned retail price tag of $499, whereas the GeForce 7900 GT is projected to be available for $299. The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the GeForce 7800 GTX 512 will be down to $399, according to sources with knowledge of the matter.

Nvidia's code-named G71 graphics processing unit (GPU) will be a 90nm version of the original code-named G70 GPU that has 24 pixel processors and 8 vertex processors. The G70 was originally made using 110nm process technology, which means that producing it using the thinner 90nm fabrication process will decrease the cost of manufacturing and will allow higher clock-speeds compared to existing maximum of 550MHz.

The GeForce 7900 GTX product will have clock-speeds of 650MHz for the chip and 1600MHz memory, some informed sources have indicated.?The new GeForce 7900 GT product will have 450MHz/1300MHz clock-speeds for core/memory.

For those who demand the ultimate performance, Nvidia's add-in-board partners will offer a graphics card with two GeForce 7900-series GPUs. Two of such cards will allow quad-SLI multi-GPU mode providing unprecedented performance.

Nvidia Corp. did not comment on the news-story.
