ATI Technologies has announced the new high-performance graphics processors for notebook computers that features the latest micro-architecture from the company. The unveiling allows ATI to catch up with rival Nvidia Corp., who introduced its high-speed graphics processing unit (GPU) featuring its latest GeForce 7 micro-architecture months ago.

?Being a leader is more than just about having the fastest graphics. It's about delivering advanced performance features that are unique to ATI-such as our ability to support high dynamic range rendering with anti-aliasing at the same time in our Mobility Radeon X1800 series of graphics processors,?said David Cummings, director of ATI's mobile business unit.

There are currently two GPUs in the Mobility Radeon X1800 series: the model X1800 with 12 pixel processors, 8 vertex processors and 450MHz core clock-speed as well as the model X1800 XT with 16 pixel processors, 8 vertex processors and 550MHz frequency. Notebook designers are free to choose memory configuration and packaging of the product. Power consumption of the Mobility Radeon X1800 family is unknown, but it is expected to be much lower compared to the appropriate desktop processors, as the mobile parts feature PowerPlay 6.0 technology that trims power consumption.

According to ATI, Mobility Radeon X1800-series will be used in notebooks from Alienware, Boxx, Eurocom, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Hypersonic, rock, Savrow and Voodoo PC.
