Desktop power for your laptop.Nvidia has announced today the availability of their latest mobile part, the Go 7800 GTX. The new chip replaces the Go 6800 Ultra released last year at the high end.
The Go 7800 GTX features the same 302 million transistor chip as its desktop counterpart, but is clocked 30 MHz less on the core and 50 MHz less on the memory.
The 110 Nanometer chip works out to be the same physical size as the Go 6800's 130 nanometer chip despite having more transistors. The new process also allows the chip to stay within the 65 watt power consumption which in conjunction with a new version of their Power Mizer tool, should give acceptable levels of power usage.
The chip supports Transparency Anti Aliasing like its desktop counterpart, and has better overall shader and geometry performance than the Go 6800 series.
The 7800 GTX is available today from multiple laptop suppliers, namely Dell, Falcon PC and VoodooPC. Visit Nvidia's product page to see the full list of features as well as their launch partners.
