Product Analysis:

eVGA e-GeForce 6800 Review

EVGA’s 6800 PCIe appears to be a standard graphics adapter with memory modules exposed and a heatsink just big enough to cover the GPU well. Like other manufacturers, EVGA hasn’t tried to innovate with various heatsinks, LED fan, RAMsinks or even a different PCB color, which could or couldn’t be a deciding factor. If you are a modder, something a bit more flashy would be acceptable for you, but if you don’t prefer all the glow, EVGA possibly has the simplistic looking solution in the market.

The quality of the heatsink is quite nice. Throughout our testing, we did not experience loud noise levels, and it cooled the GPU well. We believe the overclocking aspect of the card was actually limited to the GPU instead of the heatsink, a hint of a fine performing heatsink and fan combo.

Unlike what we have observed on other cards with heavy-duty heatsinks, the manufacturer usually had to implement something on the opposite side of the adapter to secure it in place. Clearly, that’s not the case with EVGA. The heatsink on the card is lightweight that can support itself rather well. The back of the card, as one would expect, is clean with no interference.

Continuing on…you will find the customary video ports. EVGA also includes a couple of video cables for desired connectivity options in addition to an adapter that you can use to switch the DVI port to standard VGA. One of the biggest and perhaps the only drawback is that the package contains absolutely no software of significant value. Although you get photo and video editing software, they are only trial versions. And as far as games are concerned, don’t expect anything in the package. EVGA has got to include at least a single full-version game in the package in order to be more competitive.
