Overclocking Performance:

Our goal was to find the limit of on-board memory and the GPU/VPU separately. This would eventually lead to maximum overclock yields. We slowly started increasing the memory, usually in 10MHz increments, and tested our new settings by running few loops of Doom III, Far Cry, and HL-2 games. If either one of our demos failed or if we noticed rendering issues with the card, we decided to back down. Patiently, we found the maximum overclocking potential on the Gigabyte 6600GT.

Next in line was the GPU itself. We applied the same testing and burning methodology to make sure our overclocks were stable and reliable throughout various demos that we had selected for these experiments. Once again, we slowly reached to stable speeds and determined it to be the highest possible frequency that it could reach.

In our overclocking tests, we managed to overclock the GPU from its 325MHz to 398MHz ?an increase of 22.5 percent increase in clock speed over the stock settings. For the RAM, however, we were able to overclock the memory from its 600MHz to 751MHz, which shows an increase of 25.1 increase in memory operating speeds. Needless to say, similar to its AGP offerings, 6800 vanillas are certainly the overclocking champions.
