Sapphire PURE Innovation PI-A9RX480 Review

The Southbridge area is quite busy. The SB450 handles the chipset duties, and is passively cooled. Above it are the 4 SATA 1 connectors attached to the chipset. We also find the silver BIOS battery, black round system speaker, and BIOS chip to the right of the two red IDE connectors. Again we find a mini heatsink cooling a component. On the right edge we find the handy power and reset buttons as well as two additional SATA II connectors, and the front panel connectors. The SATA II ports come courtesy of a Silicon Image controller.

Moving to the slots we see 1 16X PCI E slot, then two 1X PCI E slots, and two PCI slots. Normally we see at least 6 slots, but take that into consideration if it would effect you. Marvel handles Gigabit Ethernet duties with the chipset below and between the first two PCI E slots. A Realtek ACL880 below the 2nd PCI E 1X slot handles 8 channel audio. A VIA Firewire chip above the 1X PCI E slots doles out 1394a support. A number of areas show traces for additional chips here which perhaps signals an even more feature rich version in the future.
