Doom 3 is where we find the most dramatic impact of ATI's new drivers. While the ATI cards were predictably slower than the GeForce 7800 GTX in the benchmark when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering were not in use, this changed once the eye candy was turned on. The PowerColor Radeon X1800 XT using the new drivers easily outpaced the reference card and was faster than the GeForce 7800 GTX. ATI has certainly given its cards a much-needed boost in OpenGL performance with these drivers and maybe we will see further optimizations in the future yet.
