Conclusion

All in all, NVIDIA has done it again with their GeForce 6800GS. The Inno3D GeForce 6800GS sample we reviewed here performed admirably and considering that it is priced below the GeForce 6800GT, it simply puts every graphics card in its category into shame. Although the 6800GS comes with only 12-pixel pipelines, the increased GPU speed made the 6800GS to perform as good as a 6800GT or X800XL, if not better. Given that Inno3D was a bit skimpy on the packaging side, we enthusiasts care less about the packaging as we truly dig for pure performance. Besides, it helps Inno3D to cut down the retail price which makes the deal a lot sweeter, but it wasn’t the sweetest. Anyhow, I would definitely prefer to have a protection shim around the GPU as we have had bad experiences with “shim-less?GPU in the past.

As on the overclocking side, the Inno3D GeForce 6800GS is not the best we have seen but the additional 270MHz we got from the memory alone was pretty impressive. Looking at the bright side, the new 6800GS overclocked way better than any 6800GT or 6800 Ultra we have tested before. To be short, the 6800GS was one of the best overclockers in the GeForce 6 series. The SLI performance was decent with the Inno3D GeForce 6800GS but we are still having some issues with games like NFS:MW and FEAR.

Priced at about USD250 / RM950 each, the Inno3D GeForce 6800GS isn’t the cheapest 6800GS around and considering the skimpy package, we were not sure if this will be a value buy. We tried searching over the Internet and came across a few online retailers selling the GeForce 6800GS for as low as USD199 / RM760 only. Anyhow, a pair of Inno3D GeForce 6800GS priced about USD500 / RM1900 can give a GeForce 7800GTX or Radeon X1800XT a run for its money. As for warranty, Inno3D provides a 1-year warranty for their GeForce 6800GS which pretty standard. If you’re looking at building a budget mid-range SLI system for yourself, a pair of Inno3D GeForce 6800GS should be in your check list. For those who are planning to upgrade from a GeForce 6600GT, the GeForce 6800GS should give you a lot more performance without emptying your bank account. Without a doubt, the GeForce 6800GS is definitely the next best thing since the 6600GT!

Pros:
  • Great performance
  • Silent
  • Improved overclocking
  • Less heat
  • SLI

Cons:
  • A bit expensive than competitors?6800GS
  • Package could be better
  • Not so impressive GPU core overclocking
