Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P Review

The results for the Gigabyte GA-A790FXT-UD5P motherboard are show here against the ECS A790GXM-AD3 motherboard that we reviewed not too long ago.  Both of the these boards used the Phenom II X3 processor in their testing.  You can see how the testing of the X3 CPU stacked up against the X4 that we were using in the results of the ECS A790GXM-AD3 results.

In our Sandra testing, the Gigabyte does very well and outscores the ECS board in four of the five tests that are run.  The scores are very close though.  In Everest, the ECS board flies past the Gigabyte GA-A790FXT-UD5P in the read testing.  I was surprised that the scores were so far apart, as the same memory timings were used.  We re-ran the tests several times witht he same results.  The write tests were much closer though, and as you can see, the Gigabyte squeeked past the ECS by a hair.

POV testing was also very close.  The ECS was one second faster in rendering time, and the Gigabyte was half a fps faster in the RealTime testing.  Cinebench was a dead lock between the two boards.  In HDTach though the ECS scored better in both the average and the burst testing.

3dMark06 continued the dead-lock in our testing.  Both boards scored very well, and so close together that there really was no clear victor. In our Lightsmark 2008 testing, the boards traded a win between the resolution that we testing in, with the ECS doing better in the lower resolution and the Gigabyte GA-A790FXT-UD5P outscoring the ECS in the higher resolution.  FEAR results showed the ECS at one FSP faster than the Gigabyte, so again, very, very close!

Our gaming tests show the ECS board to be a bit faster than the Gigabyte.  The ECS outscored the Gigabyte in both resolution of Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and in the lower resolution of the Call of Duty 4 testing.

Overall, these boards were very close together, which is what we would have expected from boards with the same chipset.  The Gigabyte GA-A790FXT-UD5P showed itself to be as good a performer as anything else out there in the same catagory.
