Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P Review

The Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P was a motherboard that gave us no reason to complain about anything.  We had no issues at all using the board.  In fact, at the end of testing there was nothing that stood out negative about the board at all.  Maybe some wishes, but we have those with every board we look at.

The performance of this board was as good as it gets with the 790FX/SB750 chipsets.  The Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P scored at the same levels as the ECS board that we tested it against.

The layout and setup of the board were of no issue either.  Setup was a piece of cake.   The layout only had one minor annoyance in the placement of the 8-pin 12v connector being so close to the heatsink. It could be tough to get to if you have large hands or well-endowed fingers!  Again, not a huge issue though.

The bundle that comes with the Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P was just average.  This board was not meant to be some super-uber geek board that comes with a bunch of trinkets. It comes with enough to get you going, and maybe to add a couple of drives. I miss the days when you would get a game along with a new motherboard.  That was always an added bonus.

Pricing for the board is decent.  At the time of writing, the board is going for $172.99 shipped.  That places it as the second most expensive motherboard using this chipset combination. Only the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard (see our review) costs more and that board runs $189.99 shipped. Both boards are designed from the ground up for AMD Socket AM3 processors and are great overclockers, so no matter which one you choose you can't go wrong.

Overclocking on the board was simple and very enjoyable.  The results we got were very good as we reached 279MHz on the base clock with the default multiplier and 319MHz when we lowered the multiplier.  These are great results and should make any overclocker happy!

Legit Bottom Line: The Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P was a fun board to work with.  It is a board that overclocks great, performs very well and continues the quality that Gigabyte has been known for.
