Dual 6600GTs on a single board shown by Gigabyte

Gigabyte unveilled a single board SLI solution based on a pair of 6600GTs today.?Dubbed the 3D1,?the Gigabyte?board integrates two Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT graphics processors on one board is the first 6600 GT card to offer a total of 256 MByte DDR 3 memory and 256 Mbit of memory bandwidth.

Gigabyte also says the card sports a temperature controlled dual fan cooling system that will maximize cooling while minimizing noise.?What's also interesting is that Gigabyte's V-Tuner 2 utility will allow users to overclock both GPUs on the one card.

Gigabyte's intention is to bundle the 3D1 with their upcoming GA-KNXP-SLI for the ultimate gamer's package.

Tom's Hardware adds:

While Gigabyte claims that the 3D1 will trump the performance of Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition and the GeForce 6800 Ultra cards, it says that the card will be offered in combination with the mainboard GA-K8NXP-SLI for less money than ATI's and Nvidia's single-GPU graphics cards alone.

This sounds like a really cool solution from Gigabyte. We speculated that this would be the case back in June when SLI was unveiled. Something that sounds a bit off that should be kept in mind is that with SLI, the same textures and same geometry is sent to both cards so there is wasted memory.

You can check out a picture of the card and also Gigabyte's own inhouse benchmark results comparing the 3D1 with the X850XT and 6600GT single and SLI configurations on an AMD3000+ platform in our forum right here.
