[title]Timeframe for Cheaper 915 Boards Firm Up[/title]
Taiwan motherboard makers are expected to introduce Intel 915GL/PL-based motherboards in early February as the US chip giant is likely to begin delivering small volumes of the value versions of the 915 chipsets to local board makers in mid-January, according to sources at the makers. The 915GL/PL motherboards will target the US$60-70 segment of the board market and will gradually replace Intel 865GE/PE-based motherboards, the sources said.
Shipments of PCIe-enabled motherboards, including the 915PL models, will account for about 20% of global board market by the end of the first quarter of this year, up from 15% in year-end 2004, the sources stated.
