Intel Corp. today launched its semi-annual forum for developers, observers and analysts giving the world a sneak peek on the technologies of the future. The current forum is expected to reflect Intel's recent changes in corporate structure and highlight the company's strategy to develop platforms for various applications, nut just building blocks like in the past. Still, one of the major headlines of the Intel Developer Forum 2005 will be multi-core microprocessors, building blocks that are considered crucial for the next-generation computers.

?Intel is extending the platform approach across a number of areas including the digital home, the enterprise, healthcare, more broadly into mobility and across worldwide markets,?said Craig Barrett, Intel's CEO.

During the show Intel is expected to talk about its forthcoming desktop platforms, including its core-logic sets code-named Glenwood (955X) and Lakeport (945-series); mobile platforms, including the one code-named Napa as well as enterprise platforms. The company is also projected to unveil details of its long-term Pentium, Xeon and Itanium processors roadmaps.

In addition to actual products which development is underway Intel usually discusses fabrication technologies and natural concomitants of them as well the company's vision of future of computing, including various interesting concepts that could be parts of science-fiction novels only 15 years ago.

Intel's industry partners among sponsors of the show will also get their chances to share their latest technology innovations with the audience.

?At the same time, in order to meet evolving end-user requirements in these areas with integrated platforms, the additional processing capabilities of multi-core technology for multi-user and multi-tasking activities will be needed. Multi-core technology represents a tremendous opportunity for the developer community. It provides the foundation for almost limitless innovation and creativity in addressing the changing ways people want to use computing and communications devices,?Mr. Barret said in his keynote opening the show.

The IDF Spring series kicks off March 1-3, 2005, in San Francisco. With a worldwide focus, IDF brings together developers, business executives and technology influencers and decision makers to hear and discuss the vision and newest technologies from Intel Corporation and other industry leaders. Following San Francisco are forums in other countries.

will have IDF Spring 2004 coverage by Anna Filatova, Editor in Chief of the web-site.
