Athlon 64s and Opterons still making up less than 50% of processor output for AMDIt is pretty surprising to note that despite the popularity of the Athlon 64 here in North America, the majority of AMD processors being produced are still K7-based CPUs that are likely being pushed in developing markets.?
The K8 CPUs in proportion to AMD's total CPU output will be boosted to 50% in the second quarter, up from about 33% in the first quarter, the sources noted. AMD's K7 CPUs totaled four million units in the first quarter, the sources added.
If the numbers from DigiTimes are correct, AMD is moving roughly two million Athlon 64s, Opterons and new Semprons each quarter. It would be interesting to see how that compares to the number of desktop machines that are moved by the likes of Dell seeing as how they are faced with the constant barrage of "why are you not selling AMD machines."Article Link: K8 Production to Ramp up in 2Q
