Advertisements to appear when fast forwarding through commercialsI do not know how users will take this but it looks like TiVo will be introducing their own advertising with pop up style ads that appear when the user is fast forwarding through commercials.
The first test feature--a tag--pops up on the screen when a viewer is fast-forwarding through an advertisement. If viewers press the thumbs-up or select button during the half second the tag is displayed, they will be redirected to a menu that leads to more information about the advertised product. The tag takes up about 25 percent of the screen, according to the company.
Savvy users tend to be the ones that are most fickle and I would group TiVo owners into this category. I could see them running into some trouble as PVR companies were running into lawyers from broadcasters crying foul that they are subverting their advertising. Putting their own advertising in is a slap on the other side of the face. According to the CNET article, there is no option to opt out of this either. Not the smartest PR move.
