AMD64 technology-based digital movies doing big business at the box office
AUSTIN, TX?JUNE 13, 2005?AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced today that the latest movie by Robert Rodriguez, ?The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D?was created using dual AMD Opteron?processor-based servers and workstations at Rodriguez?Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas. The story of ?Shark Boy and Lava Girl?was conceived by Robert Rodriguez?young son Racer Rodriguez and opened in theaters across the United States on Friday.

?Shark Boy and Lava Girl?is the second movie directed by Robert Rodriguez using AMD64 technology to hit U.S. cinema screens in the past three months and the fourth all-digital major motion picture release in the same time period. Rodriguez??Sin City? George Lucas??Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith?and ?Madagascar?from DreamWorks Animation SKG?all relied on award-winning AMD64 technology to take digital filmmaking to the next level. The successful combination of talent and technology has led all three movies to the number one position at the U.S. box office.

Superior render times made possible by AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture helps directors like Robert Rodriguez to make movies quickly and cost effectively. No longer do movie makers have to wait days for digital renders to complete. This allows the digital artist to create ?on the fly and in the moment?without interrupting the creative rhythm and tempo.

?AMD fuels us so we can move at the speed of thought,?said Robert Rodriguez. ?My philosophy is less people, really talented and focused people and really great equipment. It sounds backwards but we can do more. Using the AMD64 machines, I can feel the difference. There's no lag time.?br />
?When I was younger, I used to pride myself by milking technology for all that it could do,?continued Rodriguez.?Now the AMD64 technology-based

equipment is beyond what we can do. Now you can do anything. It comes down to the idea, what ideas are really pushing the envelope.?

?As one of the top digital filmmakers in the world, what Robert Rodriguez does using AMD64 technology sends a signal to both the large studios and independent filmmakers that the old rules no longer apply and that anything is possible,?said Charlie Boswell, director of Digital Media and Entertainment at AMD.

The same AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture inherent in the AMD Opteron processor is also available with the AMD Athlon?64 and AMD Turion?64 families of processors for desktop and laptop PCs.
