Yet I still can't find a streaming video linkWith weather concerns having been blown away by the wind (hey, I try), the launch of Shuttle Discovery is on schedule for 3:51 PM EDT. A number of news outlets are reporting on milestones in the countdown as they happen, and there is news floating around that AOL is providing/will be providing live feeds of various cameras on and around the shuttle. I'll be damned if I can find any links to these live feeds, though.
NASA says it has done everything it knows to do to improve safety for the launch this evening. The shuttle has been significantly modified, with a new 50ft robotic arm that will look for any damage to the craft once it is in orbit, and heaters on the massive fuel tanks, to prevent large chunk of potentially dangerous ice forming during the countdown procedure.
There's definitely a lot riding on this mission -- not so much because of the mission goals themselves, but because of the dent in the space program that the devastating Columbia accident had. Best of luck to the crew!
