NVIDIA Corp., the company who produces the world's highest performing desktop graphics processor to date, may be gearing up to reveal a mobile flavour of the GeForce 7800 GTX architecture, according to slides that presumably come from the company.

The new mobile graphics processing unit (GPU) from NVIDIA is to be called the GeForce Go 7800 GTX and is set to inherit specifications of the desktop brother, according to slides published by techPowerUp! web-site. The GeForce Go 7800 GTX will sport 24 pixel processors as well as 6 vertex processors, which is similar to the desktop flavour of the component. The graphics processor is projected to operate at 400MHz and support 1100MHz GDDR3 memory with 256-bit interface.

The mobile chip is expected to be pin-to-pin compatible with the predecessor and have the same thermal envelope, which is likely to allow manufacturers of high-performance notebooks to quickly and easily switch to higher-performance GeForce Go 7800 GTX from the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra. In order to maintain similar power consumption with the predecessor, which reportedly consumed 65W and was also made using TSMC's 110nm process technology, NVIDIA is said to deploy PowerMizer 6.0 technology.

NVIDIA has been waiting with the launch of its mobile chip code-named G70M since early August, when the processor was certified by PCI-SIG.

According to the presentation, which is allegedly one that NVIDIA showcased during certain briefings with the media or other partners, at least ten manufacturers of notebooks, including ABS, Alienware, Dell, Evesham, Eurocom, Falcon Northwest, Hypersonic, Prostar, Sagem and Voodoo PC, will offer computers equipped with the GeForce Go 7800 GTX starting from September 29, 2005. Laptops featuring high-end graphics chips usually come in large chassis and serve to replace desktop computers.

NVIDIA Corp. usually does not comment on unreleased products.
