Introduction

ASUS P5AD2-Premium i925XE motherboard

ASUS, purveyor of quality motherboards and graphics card, never fails to jump on the product refresh bandwagon at the earliest opportunity. Refreshes give the company due licence to re-market a proven technology, thereby pushing up sales. Intel's decision to raise the Pentium 4's FSB to 266MHz (1066MHz quad pumped) is a case in point. There's only one processor currently available that supports this frequency, the vastly expensive 3.46GHz Extreme Edition, yet it hasn't stopped ASUS and a bunch of leading motherboard manufacturers from releasing and promoting updated i925X boards that natively support this ?50 monster.

ASUS' i925X-based P5AD2 Premium hooked up a glut of features to a solid base. It was a dependable board that made the most out of the comparatively underperforming LGA775 processors. ASUS has decided to use it as a blueprint for its 925XE board, appropriately and boringly named P5AD2-E Premium. We took this premium package for a review spin. Read on to see what we thought.
