Final Statements...

Performance wise, it looks like the K8V-X is an excellent performer, according to our test results. The board usually managed to stay towards the top-half of our graphs and consistently outperformed its supposedly high-end counterpart, the K8V-SE Deluxe. Fortunately, you could perceive it as an evident fact. You see, the K8V-SE Deluxe and K8V boards were introduced right when AMD made its Athlon 64 announcement, so even the high-end boards at the time are no match for the more refined and polished boards of the same type in today抯 times. This is made clear with the K8V-X, which Asus introduced at a much later date.

As far as the board layout is concerned, the Asus K8V-X is only plagued with a single row of capacitors that could potentially come in the way of larger heatsinks, likes the ones from Zalman and Thermalright. We suggest you look through the cooler manufacturer抯 website to see if this board is included in their compatibility charts. Other than that, the board is hassle-free and clean all around.

Although the board layout is worthy of our compliments, we can抰 help but despise the lack of high-end tweaking options for the enthusiasts. The missing AGP/PCI lock and lackluster DRAM voltage settings are too shunning for this board to make a solid overclocking friendly product. However, it does offer more than enough settings to make it perform even better at stock settings.

With the issues and performance aside, the KV8-X retails around $84.00 at Newegg.com and around $80.00 at various other online retailers. This makes the board a neck-to-neck competitor against the K8V-SE Deluxe. If you are looking for a high-end, economy class board with limited features and overclocking abilities, the K8V-X is an excellent choice. The socket 754 platform is by far the most tempting choice for value buyers.

Looking for more motherboards, check out Newegg.com for more choices.
