eVGA e-GeForce 6600 GT Review

Date: 2005-7-19

[Abstract]
Although EVGA could be a bit more innovating, the company has managed to impress us with competitive performance and comparatively lower prices than other manufacturers. Therefore, we've had no...

Overclocking Performance:

Our goal was to find the limit of on-board memory and the GPU/VPU separately. This would eventually lead to maximum overclock yields. We slowly started increasing the memory, usually in 10MHz increments, and tested our new settings by running few loops of Doom III, Far Cry, and HL-2 games. If either one of our demos failed or if we noticed rendering issues with the card, we decided to back down. Patiently, we found the maximum overclocking potential on the Connect3D X700 Pro.

Next in line was the GPU itself. We applied the same testing and burning methodology to make sure our overclocks were stable and reliable throughout various demos that we had selected for these experiments. Once again, we slowly reached to stable speeds and determined it to be the highest possible frequency that it could reach.

Using our standard methodology to overclock graphics adapters, we upped the clock speeds on both the GPU as well as the memory modules to see how far we could push this card. In the end, we ended up getting 588MHz from the default 500MHz GPU and 590MHz from the 500MHz default memory. This yields to a 17.6 percent increase in GPU speeds and 18 percent increase in memory speeds. Despite the boost in both core clocks, you probably won?t notice an augmentation in performance unless you are truly putting stress on the card. Needless to say, the overclocking yield of the EVGA 6600GT is on par with other adapters of similar caliber.
